Carpet

Regular maintenance and periodic professional cleaning of your carpet will keep your home beautiful and comfortable for years to come.

A few handy tips

• Place mats in all entryways to your home to prevent tracking in dirt and grime across your beautiful new carpet.
• Vacuum frequently to remove loose dirt and dust from the carpet fibres. These particles can dull your carpet’s appearance over time.  High traffic area may require more vacuuming more often. For maximum cleaning efficiency, change your vacuum bags often or use a model designed without bags to simplify the task.
• Investing in a good underpad will give your carpet better resilience, add comfort underfoot and help extend the life of your carpet.
• You may rearrange your furniture periodically since heavy furniture can compress the carpet pile and leave indentations.
• Use floor protectors designed for carpeting to evenly distribute the weight of tables, chairs and other furniture.
• Use window coverings that offer some protection against sunlight where your carpet is near windows and patio doors.  Harmful UV rays can deteriorate your carpet’s appearance and ability to withstand wear.
• Some carpets can snag, especially at a seam or a carpet transition. Carefully snip the yarn flush with the carpet and do not try to pull out the snag.

Treating spills

• Treat spills quickly to avoid the stain from soaking into the fibres. Immediately blot up as much of the spill as possible using a dry cloth or paper towel. The longer a spill is left unattended, the more difficult it will be to remove.
• Do not rub or scrub the area. This will damage the fibres and scar permanently.
• Rinse the stained area with warm water. Avoid using hot water which can set the stain and make it very difficult to remove. Continuously press clean cloths into the carpet until the stain no longer appears on the cloth.
• If a stain remover is required, remove excess moisture before applying and then apply it gently. Rinse the area with warm water and absorb excess dampness with a clean cloth. Vacuum after the carpet has dried to restore its texture and appearance.
• Always pre-test cleaning products in a small, inconspicuous area to ensure that the solution will not damage the carpet or its dyes.
• To protect the stain resistance finish on your carpet, do not use disinfectants, insecticides or fungicides. The pH level in detergents should not be above 10 since very alkaline detergents clean well, but can reduce the stain resistance of the carpet.
• Aerosol foam cleaners are not recommended.

Professional cleaning

• To protect your investment, it is recommended to have your carpet cleaned professionally approximately once a year. A reputable carpet cleaner has the equipment and experience to thoroughly remove stubborn stains and embedded soil without damaging your carpet and losing its built-in protection.
